1. A novel definition for metabolically healthy obesity and risk of cardiovascular and total mortality

Funding: German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD)/Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)

In recent years one subgroup of obese individuals without an increased risk of cardiovascular complications and mortality has been postulated, the metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) phenotype. However, there is still no consensus about a uniform definition to characterise this subgroup. Using data from NHANES-III and the UK Biobank we are developing a new empirically derived definition for MHO.

2. Metabolically healthy obesity, adipose tissue distribution and body composition

Funding: German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD)/Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)

Within this project we are investigating the role of adipose tissue distribution in abdominal and lower body compartments and their associations with metabolic health status using data from the UK Biobank imaging study.
