Background Accurately assessing diabetes risk in individuals is an important prerequisite to targeting prevention interventions at individuals at high risk of developing diabetes. Diabetes risk prediction models provide an important approach to assessing risk and susceptibility by identifying individuals at high risk, by allowing the evaluation of interventions, and by providing estimates of the population burden and cost of diabetes. A substantial body of research has recently been published or is currently underway to develop diabetes risk prediction models. The symposium will present recent developments and will provide the opportunity for a discussion of methods for deriving and validating prediction models, their application in different settings as well as associated risks and benefits. Objectives
The German Institute of Human Nutrition (DIfE) invites scientists in the field of chronic disease risk prediction and diabetes prevention to discuss these issues during a two-day symposium.
