Lipofuscin is a strongly oxidized aggregate composed of covalently cross-linked proteins, lipids and, to a lesser extent, carbohydrates. The cellular amount of lipofuscin increases over time and correlates negatively with the remaining lifespan of the cell. Lipofuscin accumulates over time and shows a variety of effects in aged cells and, last but not least, limits the lifespan of the organism.

The project aims to identify enzymes that are able to degrade lipofuscin. The objectives are:

The position is available for 2 years. The level of salary will be determined on the basis of standard/tariff conditions, present qualifications and professional experience (remuneration group EG 13 TV-L).
