Metabolic regulation of energy metabolism
Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are the three dietary macronutrients. They provide our body with building blocks and energy and play a major role in the development of adiposity and associated diseases (e.g. insulin resistance). Not only the composition and amount of food are important but also its interaction with genetic factors. These are the object of our research with the focus on metabolic regulatory interactions of important organs such as the gastrointestinal tract, skeletal muscle, and fatty tissue.
Primarily in animal models, we study how macronutrients interact with substrate and energy metabolism in order to identify and characterize in detail the physiological and molecular mechanisms leading to the development of adiposity. In the end, we want to contribute to new and efficient approaches to treatment and prevention of adiposity.
