At the international level, DIfE is well networked, being associated with eleven different research consortia funded by the EU in the 7th Framework Program. DIfE is involved in five of these consortia via its Potsdam cohort of the EPIC Study, where EPIC means European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition.
In addition, DIfE collaborates with groups within the French research organization Institut national de la recherche agronomique and with the Russian Almazov Federal Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre in St. Petersburg. The institute is also a member of the GIANT Consortium, where GIANT means Genetic Investigation of Anthropometric Traits. This consortium searches for gene variants that have an effect on body measures and play a role in the development of overweight.
DIfE scientists have been granted funds from the German Research Foundation, including international joint projects with France, Israel, and Palestine.
